The trek to the Gokyo lakes and Cho Oyu base camp will take us to the Solo Khumbu region, under the famous Everest. We will fly to the well-known Lukla airport, visit the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar, and enjoy the view from Gokyo Ri of Everest, Cho Oyu, the Dudh Kosi lake, and the dominant peak of the valley - Cho la Tse.
We will start the trek with a flight to the "most dangerous airport in the world" - Lukla. We will walk through the picturesque lower Khumbu to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. There, we will witness the sunrise over Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, have breakfast at the Everest View Hotel, and explore the Sherpa villages above Namche.
Up to this point, our trek is the same as the Everest Base Camp trek. Beyond Namche, however, we will separate from the route and continue through the villages of Dhole and Machhermo to the scenic lakes near Gokyo. These sacred lakes (for both Hinduism and Buddhism) are, by the way, the highest freshwater lake system in the world (6 main lakes). We will hike the easy Gokyo Ri and enjoy the magnificent views it offers.
We will take a day trip to the Cho Oyu base camp at the end of the valley near the Ngozumpa glacier, located under the eastern face of the eight-thousand-meter peak Cho Oyu.
The return trek will take us along the other side of the Dudh Kosi river through the picturesque village of Phortse. After crossing the river, we will descend back to Namche Bazaar and then to Lukla.
The trek to Gokyo is considered moderately challenging. An average hiker should be able to complete it. The daily elevation gains are not too large, and we will have plenty of time to enjoy the breathtaking, scenic landscape. The only challenge is the altitude, as we will be staying in Gokyo, which is close to 5000 meters above sea level.
The accommodation options on this trek are quite good. We will stay in tourist lodges of standard Nepali quality during the trek, and in Kathmandu, we will be accommodated in a European-standard hotel.
After the trek, we can visit historical Buddhist and Hindu sites in the Kathmandu Valley and enjoy some well-deserved rest.
The entire trek and ascent (flight arrival/departure) will take 14 days, and we will undertake it with international mountain guide UIMLA Michal Gabriž. You can, of course, hire a porter if desired.
The trek group is limited to a maximum of 9 people.
After the trek, there is an option to spend a few days relaxing and going on a safari in Chitwan National Park.
